LONELY PATH OF LIFE
This lonely path of life I walk
Is not paved with fame or gold,
Only deeply saddened stories
That are crying to be told.
When I look ahead I see
No bright and shining lights,
For now my days all seem as dark
As the blackest of my nights.
I hear the faintest echoes
Of times that all have gone,
As I struggle deep within
For the strength to carry on.
My soul is filled with sorrow
For the misery in my past,
And all of the times I gave my heart
When I thought the love would last.
Forever searching for a way
To end this pain and strife,
And realize how to escape
From this lonely path of life.
LEAVING HOME
As I looked out towards my homeland,
A tear fell from my eye,
For when the time came for leaving
It was hard to say goodbye.
I stepped into a foreign land
Scared and all alone;
Stripped of all I had possessed
And all that I had known.
The courage and defenses
That shielded through the years
And stayed secured within my soul
Were now replaced with fears.
I had to look within myself
And seek my peace of mind,
Then left my insecurities
In the darkness far behind.
Into the world I ventured,
Inspired, but still unsure
And charged into the battle,
To make my life secure.
Still I looked to the surroundings
Of this world in which I roam,
And my heart pounds with a longing
To once again be home.
ME AGAINST THE WORLD
Woke up this morning on the wrong side of the bed,
Stepped on the dog and then fell on my head,
There is nothing much to be said;
Except it's me against the world!
Breakfast is cold, the microwave is broke,
And is filling the house with some green-yellow smoke,
That smells real bad and is making me choke;
It's just me against the world!
The kids are all whining and want to be fed,
The cat is in heat and the goldfish are dead,
My wife looks like she has a rat's nest on her head;
Why me, against the world?
So, I heard that you were planning to go to the zoo,
But your boss called to say that he's down with the flu,
And he's leaving all of his duties to you;
Maybe it's you against the world!
Well my friend, it's time to go,
But I'm glad you called, I was feeling low,
And it makes me happy just to know
It's not just me against the world!
VALENTINE'S DAY
Cupid hovers in the air
And aims with his strong bow;
Then pretty soon you fall in love
With someone that you know.
You feel a sudden stinging
As his arrow pierces your heart,
You are stunned for just a moment,
Then you feel the fire start.
You send a card or flowers
To show what you cannot say
And cupid smiles from up above
On this, his favorite day.
For now the lovers all unite
To show someone they care,
ANd to tell that special person
That they always will be there.
So off he frolics through the air
To laugh and sing and play,
For he's celebrating all his work
On this Happy Valentine's Day!
THE ROSE
Soft velvet petals
The color of sweet red wine
With an intoxicating fragrance
That hints of love divine.
So many smiles are due to you
For you make the perfect gift
To the kind and gentle lover
Whose spirits you shall lift.
Your petals spread beneath the feet
Of a princess as she goes
Your touch as soft as woven silk
Against her dainty toes.
Revered throughout the ages,
Your beauty has been known
To be the symbol of deepest love
And the way that it is shown.
Wherever the splendor of your beauty is beheld
The spirit of romance flows,
So much in love is owed to you;
Oh wonderous, sweet red rose.
SPRINGTIME
The animals are waking up
From their long winter rest,
And birds are working frantically
To build their humble nest.
The days are getting warmer
And nature comes alive,
For it patiently has waited
For springtime to arrive.
All the world around you
Is colorful and bright,
As the flowers lift their petaled heads
While reaching toward the light.
People all around you
Are spreading love and cheer,
For they know that springtime
Is the best time of the year.
A COOL AND MISTY MORNING
A cool and misty morning
Sets my tortured soul at ease
For it takes away the harsher points
Of all a person sees.
The air is so refreshing
And if you closely listen,
You will hear the love birds sing
In the trees that seem to glisten.
As you walk along the path
The world seems so brand new,
Everything is shining
From the early morning dew.
A gentle northern breeze
Makes the morning feel complete
As it carries smells of flowers
That are so fresh and sweet.
A frightened squirrel scurries up an oak
And broadcasts a worried warning
To alert the animals about the one
Who walks their path this misty morning.
ALL HALLOWS EVE
There are many holidays
To make your life seem bright
But my favorite one I celebrate
On a dark and windy night.
Where ghosts float through the graveyard
And demons run amuck.
Vampires fly upon their search
For a neck on which to suck.
Monsters howl and witches chant
While dancing round and round
To draw the hidden power
From beneath their sacred ground.
As you're coming face to face
With things you can't believe,
You'll know this is the special night
That's called All Hallows Eve.
THE BUTTERFLY
It flutter through the summer air
So light and oh so free,
Then lights upon a flower
And mingles with a bumblebee.
Spreading it's colorful, delicate wings
It takes to flight again
Carrying pollen from plants around
From places that it's been.
It begins as a tiny caterpiller
Then spins a silk cocoon,
For it knows that it will surely emerge
As a creature of beauty soon.
Once it awakens to the world
To spread it's gossamer wings
People smile to finally see
The beauty that it brings.
It's nature's tiny work of art
And is such a sweet surprise
For those who are so lucky
To be walking where it flies.
Now that I have explained to you
Do you still wonder why
If I had a choice of what to be
I answer: a butterfly!
OLD MAN WINTER
Colored leaves are piled upon the ground,
The air gets colder every day,
All of the birds are heading south;
Old Man Winter's on his way.
The wind turns sharp and colder still
As snowflakes fall to the ground,
All the land turns virgin white
When Old Man Winter is around.
Snowmen created by children
Stand watching all day long,
But when no one looks, they love to dance
To Old Man Winter's song.
But then there comes a warmer day,
Icicles start to weep,
For when the spring wakes up to play
Old Man Winter goes to sleep.
